Meanwhile, the Destination Chargers are meant for slower, overnight charging situations, providing a more relaxed charging experience for users who don’t require a rapid boost.

The pricing of the charging services has also been made public. The V4 Superchargers will charge at Rs 24 per kilowatt-hour (kWh), offering speeds of up to 250 kW. The slower AC Destination Chargers will be available at Rs 11 per kWh with a standard speed of 11 kW. This pricing structure is expected to cater to different kinds of Tesla owners, from those who need a quick charge during a busy day to those who prefer a slower, overnight charging routine.

Supercharger Speed and Performance

Tesla’s V4 Superchargers are known for their efficiency and high-performance output. In real-world terms, using a 250 kW Supercharger, the Tesla Model Y can gain approximately 267 kilometers of driving range in just 15 minutes. To contextualize this range, Tesla claims that it’s enough to complete five round trips between Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport and the Gateway of India—one of the city’s most iconic routes. This kind of fast-charging capability is poised to be a game-changer in a country where range anxiety continues to be a barrier to EV adoption.

Tesla Model Y Availability in India

The Tesla Model Y, which is currently being offered to Indian consumers, comes in two variants: the standard Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) version and a Long-Range RWD option. The base RWD model is priced at Rs 59.89 lakh, while the Long-Range version costs Rs 67.89 lakh. On-road prices for these variants are Rs 61.07 lakh and Rs 69.15 lakh, respectively, depending on the state and applicable taxes.

The RWD variant features a single electric motor mounted on the rear axle, producing approximately 295 horsepower. It is available with two battery configurations—60 kWh and 75 kWh. The 60 kWh battery pack offers a WLTP-certified range of around 500 kilometers on a full charge, while the larger 75 kWh pack offers an extended range of up to 622 kilometers. These figures represent real-world usability and can cover daily urban commutes as well as long-distance travel without frequent charging stops.

EV Adoption and Tesla’s India Strategy

Tesla’s decision to set up its first Supercharger station in Mumbai is a strategic one. Mumbai, being India’s financial capital and home to a large number of affluent, tech-savvy consumers, presents an ideal launchpad for Tesla’s ecosystem.
